Storytime is a staple in public libraries. While it often appears to be purely entertainment, librarians use storytime to introduce early literacy skills, model instruction techniques, and share the joy of reading with children and caregivers. Developing early literacy skills in children is important for ensuring school readiness. It has been suggested that the younger a child begins reading (or being read to), the more beneficial it is for early language and literacy development.
